The electromagnetic valves of this type are devices providing by means of electromagnetic drive control of flowing and stopping of fluid on the pipelines. 3/2-way solenoid valve has three ports (inlet, outlet, and exhaust) and two positions, commonly used to control the flow of fluids (gases or liquids) in a single-acting pneumatic system.
Function and Operation
The “3/2” designation refers to the valve’s configuration:
- 3 Ports: Inlet (P, 1), Outlet (A, 2), and Exhaust (R, 3).
- 2 Positions: The two distinct flow paths the valve can take.
The operation involves an electromagnetic coil (solenoid) which, when energized, moves an armature to change the valve’s position.
- Normally Closed (NC) Function: In its default, de-energized state, the inlet port is closed (blocked), and the outlet port is connected to the exhaust port. When energized, the inlet port opens to the outlet port, and the exhaust port is closed.
- Normally Open (NO) Function: In its default, de-energized state, the inlet port is open to the outlet port, and the exhaust port is closed. When energized, the inlet port is closed, and the outlet port connects to the exhaust port.
